Let me introduce you to Van Morrison. He's a 2012 Hiace Hitop that I purchased at the end of 2020 in preparation for some serious travel within Australia. COVID had scuppered any plans of exploring overseas so this was Plan B; a van that I could take to most places (although I've discovered he HATES corrugations ... the rear vision mirror fell off the first time we went on a bumpy road!).

I tweaked a few things here and there, took out a cupboard, put another where the microwave used to be, painted him white and got some snazzy curtains made and all of a sudden he didn't look like a tired old rental. Instead, he was ... VAN MORRISON!
Maggie loves him too!

ReplyDeleteThat works
DeleteThat’s great
DeleteHave a great time.
ReplyDeleteWe know all about a vehicle that hates corrugations. You probably remember experiencing it in the Suzi on those desert roads in Chile!!
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to hear about your adventures
Hugs, Wendy and Rick
Have a great trip Anthea. I'll check in every now and then to see where you are. We are heading off next weekend for a month or two. Need to be on Gold Coast early July. Travelling via Broken Hill, Bourke, Lightning Ridge etc. hopefully avoiding the mice.
ReplyDeleteGreat idea, Anthea. Hope your blog is easy to maintain - looking forward to following your trip. Safe travels.
ReplyDeleteImportant tip: let tyres down to about 26 psi when off bitumen. This will give more control, reduce risk of punctures, and soften those nasty corrugations. A decent compressor when you get back to black top would be nice but not essential.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the advice. Anything to make those corrugations better is much appreciated!
DeleteLooking forward to your adventure. Sounds awesome.
ReplyDeleteHope you have a wonderful worry-free trip.
ReplyDeleteBudj Bim National Park is an interesting place to visit, in wait for SA border to open!
